North Country State Senator Darrel Aubertine has unveiled what are being described as a "dairy farmers bill of rights". The measure is included in legislation introduced by the Democrat in Albany. Aubertine's office describes the bill as a way to protect dairy farmer's rights to join or remain in an association of producers or operate independently, against against unfair business practices by milk dealers. The bill itself would raise penalties against milk dealers who engage in coercion, breach of contract, bribery, refusal of deal, falsehood and conspiracy. The bill was approved by the Senate Ag Committee on Tuesday.
