Candidates For City Office Submit Petitions

Thursday was the day petitions for office in this fall's elections were due. There was one surprise in the race for Watertown City Council as a seventh individual submitted petitions who had not publicly indicated that they were running ahead of time. That individual is Matthew Melvin. He joins Cody Horbacz, Ryan Henry-Wilkinson, Todd De Mar, Cliff Olney, Doug Osbourne, and Mark Walzcyk. Should the petitions be certified, a September primary will take place that will shrink the number of candidates down to four for the November election. There are two open seats on the City Council. No surprises for city mayor as the three declared candidates submitted petitions. Incumbent Jeff Graham and City Councilmen Joe Butler Jr. and Steve Jennings all submitted petitions. A September primary will take place to where two candidates will move on to the November general election.
